Training / Scholarship Award

Four members of the Internet Society St. Vincent and the Grenadines Chapter has been granted scholarship to participate in the Course/Scholarship, “Building Wireless Community Network,” which is scheduled to be held online from September 13 to October 22, 2021. The course is offered by the Secretariat of the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission of the Organization of American States (CITEL/OAS) in conjunction with the Internet Society (ISOC).

The Recipients Are:

  • Charles Burke
  • Roxanne John
  • Marlo Browne
  • Martin Sheen

250 scholarships were awarded to Spanish-speaking participants and 43 scholarships to English-speaking participants).

Course modality: Distance Leaning – online

The course consists of training community members in wireless technology and Wi-Fi equipment that uses unlicensed spectrum bands of 2.4 and 5.8 GHz. This is in order to create wireless networks that belong to and are operated by the community, thus allowing it not only to implement and manage these networks, but also to enable the transfer of knowledge.

Specific Objectives:

  • To acquire basic concepts and knowledge of how to develop wireless community networks.
  • To get familiar with experiences that enable the student to obtain references for the efficient design of wireless community networks.
  • To acquire the necessary know-how to design a plan for the implementation of wireless community networks.
  • To transfer their knowledge on wireless networks to other members of the community.
